SUMMARY:Exhibition Openings: Contemporary Innovations, The Crib Exhibition, & Solo Artists
DESCRIPTION:View new exhibitions and meet the artists! Opening Saturday, September 5, exhibitions will be available to explore beginning at 9:00 a.m. Beat the crowds and visit earlier in the day, or join us for the opening celebration from 3–5 p.m.\nOn view September 5–November 1, Contemporary Innovations: James Gardner — Of Verses, Vines, and Venerators features mixed-media works by Montreal artist James Gardner. This collection continues his exploration of religious imagery through the lens of Western esotericism, reinterpreting symbols of martyrdom and sainthood while examining their connections to mythology, personal meaning, and evolving forms of knowledge through the process of painting.\nThe Crib Exhibition brings together works in a variety of media from 15 artists who were invited to respond to themes of mental health and mental health risk using premade cribs created by local artist Jim Roberts. Each artist offers a unique perspective, transforming the same object into a powerful exploration of personal experiences and broader conversations surrounding mental wellness.\nRhonda Smith’s Persistence features linoleum prints inspired by the historic farmland of Antietam National Battlefield. Through these detailed images, Smith explores the connection between place, memory, and history, reflecting on the importance of acknowledging the past and preserving the stories held within our landscapes.\n
