William Algernon Gardiner Jr., 83, writer, scholar, and beloved friend, passed away on May 13, 2025. Born April 13, 1942, in Oklahoma and raised in La Plata, MD, Bill earned degrees in English from Loyola University, Purdue, and a PhD from the University of Maryland. He taught creative writing at American University and spent two decades as a professor at Montgomery College. A published poet, editor, and art lover, Bill traveled widely, embraced classical culture, and cherished life’s pleasures. He lived his final years at Nova Springs Assisted Living. Bill is remembered for his intellect, wit, creativity, and deep friendships.
