Documentary Film Series “The Race That Eats It’s Young”
The 2014 documentary The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young, running 1 hour and 29 minutes and not rated, will be shown at 1 p.m. (captioned) and 7:30 p.m. The film examines the infamous ultramarathon that draws 40 runners from around the world each year to a small town in Tennessee, where they test the limits of both mental and physical endurance. Conceived as a tongue-in-cheek response to James Earl Ray’s failed prison escape, the race has gained legendary status for its extreme difficulty, with only 10 finishers in its first 25 years.
