Reta L. Smit, 84, of Taneytown, Maryland, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at Lorien Hospice in Taneytown. Born May 4, 1941, in Greenup, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Lucy (Thompson) Craycraft and the beloved wife of Richard L. Smit, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reta worked at Sears, Little Sisters of the Poor, UMBC, and a Hallmark store. She was known for her ribbon bows, love of cards, and devotion to family, especially her grandchildren.
