Henry Arnold Payne, 84, of Sykesville, passed away peacefully Feb. 6, 2026. A Washington, DC native and Mount Saint Joseph graduate, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force before building a long railroad career with Conrail, retiring as a Trainmaster in Baltimore. A former semi-pro football player, Henry later found joy in golf, family, and community life. Known for his humor, storytelling, and strong opinions, he was happiest cheering on his grandchildren and debating sports and politics with friends. Henry is remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud, larger-than-life presence.
