The Carroll County Arts Council has issued a call for submissions from local playwrights for the 4th Annual Marcia L. Bogash Playwright Festival, coming this spring to the Carroll Arts Center.
Adult playwrights age 18 and older who live in Maryland are invited to submit original short plays no longer than 15 minutes in length. All subject matters are welcome. Selected works will be presented as staged readings during the festival on Saturday, May 30.
Chosen playwrights will have the opportunity to see their work brought to life before a live audience. Participants may also opt to receive direct audience feedback and will receive a small stipend. Playwrights whose works are selected are responsible for directing their own plays and securing actors for the readings.
To apply, interested writers must submit a PDF of their play, along with their name, contact information, and a brief bio of 100 words or less, through the application form available on the Arts Council’s website. This year, submissions will be managed through SlideRoom software. Applicants must create a SlideRoom account to apply; there is no application fee and no cost to create an account.
The mission of the Marcia L. Bogash Playwright Festival is to provide local artists with an engaging environment for the development and promotion of new theatrical works, honoring one of Carroll County’s most celebrated arts advocates.
Marcia L. Bogash, a founding member of the Carroll Players theater group, was an avid supporter of the arts in Carroll County. She was also active with the Carroll County Master Gardeners and worked with the Charlotte Quest Nature Center in Manchester. The festival is dedicated to her memory and the lasting impact she made on the local arts community.
The deadline for submissions is April 1. All applicants will be notified in early May whether their play has been selected by the festival’s review committee.
The Carroll Arts Center is located in downtown Westminster. For more information, call 410-848-7272 or visit www.CarrollCountyArtsCouncil.org. Questions about participating may be directed to Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator Gwen Asbury at gwen@carrollcountyartscouncil.org.
