Edgar Edmund Courtemanch, 82, of Columbia, MD, passed away on October 19, 2025. Born April 18, 1943, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Edgar N. and Eleanor Irene (Madden) Courtemanch. A devoted family man, generous friend, and lifelong train enthusiast, Ed served as a U.S. Army First Lieutenant in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star Medal. His mantra, “You must never do nothing,” guided a remarkable career with Amtrak, where he worked from its founding in 1971 until retiring in 2017 as its longest-serving employee. He is survived by his brother, five children, and five grandchildren, who continue his legacy of love and service.
