Carroll 250: Asia in the 18th Century Mid-Atlantic at Carroll County Library
Join historian Daniel Sieh for a captivating exploration of how Asia shaped the early Western world. Long before the American Revolution, Asia was well known across Europe, and Britain eagerly sought to profit from its “exotic” goods. Yet this was no mere one-way exchange. Through the vast trade networks of the British East India Company, a lively dialogue emerged between two very different cultures.
Goods, ideas, and even people traveled thousands of miles, reaching ports from London to the 13 colonies—soon to become the United States. Though these arrivals may have seemed foreign to early Americans, their influence proved lasting, leaving cultural imprints that scholars are only now beginning to fully uncover. Registration is required. Please visit the event site for full details.
