Foreign Film Festival: The Monk and the Gun
The 2023 comedy, running 2 hours and 30 minutes and rated PG-13, will be screened at 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Produced collaboratively by Bhutan, France, the U.S., and Taiwan, and presented in English and Dzongkha, the film is set in the isolated yet picturesque nation of Bhutan as it faces the pressures of modernization. The story follows an aging lama who, concerned about his country’s future, sends his young disciple Tashi on a mission to retrieve two guns from an arms dealer. Tashi’s adventure takes a James Bond–inspired turn when he encounters Ron, a clever American gun collector. The screening is generously sponsored by the Jeannie Bird Baking Company.
