Household Hazardous Waste Collection & Document Shredding
Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 18, 2026, and safely dispose of unwanted household chemicals while protecting your personal information. From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Carroll County residents are invited to bring approved hazardous household items and sensitive documents for secure shredding. This event provides a safe and environmentally responsible way to get rid of dangerous household materials and confidential paperwork. Please note this event is for residential use only — no commercial or farm materials will be accepted. Items ACCEPTED at the household hazardous waste drop-off event include gas/gas oil mix, lighter fluid, oil-based: paints, stains, sealants, and varnishes, brake and steering fluid, engine cleaner, degreaser, paint thinners, solvents, and mineral spirits, bleach, ammonia, oven cleaners, drain openers, acetone, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, photographic chemicals, pool/hot tub chemicals, CFLs and fluorescent tubes, household use Nickel-Cadmium, NIMH, “Button” batteries, lithium, and Lithium-Ion batteries, Mercury switches and thermometers, vape liquids in consumer containers, and electronic smoking device batteries.
Items NOT ACCEPTED at this event include: latex paint, and water-based paints, stains, sealants, and varnishes (dispose with household trash once solidified by an absorbent such as kitty litter, hardener additive, or air dried), single use household batteries (alkaline), explosives, ammunition, fireworks, medical and biohazard waste, radioactive material, asbestos, compressed gas or propane tanks and cylinders, vehicle batteries, motor oil, hydraulic oil, diesel, kerosene, transmission fluid, and antifreeze. Italicized items are accepted for recycling, year-round at the Northern Landfill Recycling Center, 1400 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, during normal business hours.
Document shredding is available for residential use only; no businesses. Sensitive documents will be shredded on-site and securely destroyed. Limit 3 bags or Banker’s Boxes (approx. 24″x15″x10″). Shredding is available only until the mobile shredding truck is full.
Medication and Sharps Takeback Items Accepted: Prescription, Over the Counter, & Pet Medications (no liquids), Supplements, Syringes, Needle Tips, Lancets, & Auto-Injectors.
