Leggio “Lee” Joseph Sassi, 103, died Feb. 2, 2026, in Ellicott City. Born Aug. 10, 1922, in Pennsylvania, he was a decorated World War II Army veteran who fought under Gen. Patton, earning the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and other honors, and was knighted by France in 2025. After additional service in Korea, he was honorably discharged in 1948. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, he was celebrated by the Baltimore Orioles and Topps in his later years. Lee worked as a plasterer and retired from Westinghouse. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
