Michael Shilling Smelser, 84, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at Dove House, surrounded by family. Born January 3, 1942, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Samuel and Doris Smelser and the beloved husband of Dinah Smelser, his wife of 64 years. A Westminster High graduate, he played football at the University of Richmond before beginning a distinguished 30-year career with the U.S. Secret Service, retiring as Assistant Director in Charge of Training. A man of deep faith, he served as an elder in his church for many years and was devoted to family, friends, and service.
