Carroll County residents gathered under clear blue skies Saturday afternoon to protest government overreach during a “No Kings Rally” held in front of the county office buildings.
The demonstration, which began at 3 p.m., drew a crowd that lined both sides of the street. Participants waved dozens of American flags and at least one Marine Corps flag as passing motorists frequently honked their horns in a steady show of support.
While the weather remained chilly, the atmosphere was energetic. Most of the protesters appeared to be in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, though the crowd continued to grow throughout the afternoon as more residents arrived.
The rally was organized by Carroll County citizens, advocating for stricter limitations on executive authority within government. Attendees said the “No Kings” theme was chosen to emphasize the importance of representative governance over unilateral decision-making.
“We are here to remind our elected officials that they serve the people, not the other way around,” said one participant, who declined to be named.
As of 4:30 p.m., the demonstration remained peaceful, with protesters maintaining their positions on the sidewalks to allow for the flow of traffic.
Local law enforcement was present but reported no incidents or arrests related to the gathering.
