Robert “Bob” Furney, born July 4, 1942, in Gettysburg, passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2026. A graduate of Gettysburg High School and Gettysburg College, he played on the 1964 Middle Atlantic Conference football champions. Bob moved to Maryland in 1965, building a 33-year career in federal service, notably as head of position classification at Bethesda Naval Hospital and the Government Printing Office. An avid Orioles and Ravens fan, he loved traveling, golfing with friends, and sharing Gettysburg history. Survived by his children, grandchildren, and stepchildren, Bob’s dedication to family, work, and community will be fondly remembered.
