Westminster High School senior has been awarded the inaugural Carroll County Scholars full-tuition scholarship to McDaniel College, officials announced.
Jacob Noonan received the scholarship, valued at approximately $200,000 over four years, during a surprise presentation by McDaniel College representatives at his school. He is the first recipient of the award, which is given annually to one Carroll County student who has participated in the college’s Carroll County Scholars program.
Noonan, who has a 4.34 GPA, is involved in the Kiwanis Key Club and several honor societies, where he tutors other students. Through his job at CVS, he developed an interest in biochemistry and plans to pursue a career as a pharmacist.
Representatives present for the surprise included Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Jill Centofanti, Admissions Counselor Sydney Lipsman, and Jen Bubczyk, president of Hill Development Group LLC and a supporter of the Carroll County Scholars program, along with the college’s Green Terror mascot.
The Carroll County Scholars program provides free college planning support to local high school students, including workshops and guidance on the college search and application process. Students who complete the program and enroll at McDaniel are guaranteed at least $100,000 in scholarships, with one student each year selected for a full-tuition award.
McDaniel College has offered scholarships to Carroll County students since 1984, with funding largely provided by local businesses and alumni.
