The Carroll Community College Theater will present “Two Nights (and an Afternoon) of Staged Readings” later this month, offering audiences a unique opportunity to experience new theatrical works in an intimate, collaborative setting.

Directed by Jane Frazier Kennedy, the performances are scheduled for April 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on April 26 at 2 p.m. All shows will take place in the Theater in the Scott Center on the college’s Westminster campus.

The event centers on the development of new plays, an essential part of keeping theater fresh and innovative. Staged readings allow playwrights to hear their scripts performed aloud—often for the first time—while gaining valuable feedback from both actors and live audiences.

Without the addition of sets, costumes, or lighting, the focus remains squarely on the dialogue, characters and storytelling, encouraging a deeper connection between performers and the material.

Audience members can expect a range of voices and perspectives, as multiple playwrights are featured throughout the program. The lineup includes works by LaShay Fletcher, Helen Cheng Mao, Taariq Saadiq, Jody Nusholtz, Jeff Dunne and Mark McAlevey, each bringing a distinct style and narrative to the stage.

The cast is made up of local and student performers, including Ashley Beyer, Maya Boggs, Michelle Cantatore-Brown, Cassandra Casey, Mary-Beth Connor, Justin R. Cooper, Jonathan Halberstam, Emehlia Nelson, Evan Oskam, Robin Shellman, Griffin Thweatt, Sasha Travers, Bobbi Trimble, Emmanuel Valle and Liv Ward.

Tickets are $5 and seating is limited. Advance purchase is encouraged. Link to purchase tickets online.
