John Wayne “Duke” Bowman Sr. passed away on July 29, 2026. Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of A. Jane Bowman and the late Elmer Grant Bowman. John was the beloved husband and best friend of Jeannie Bowman, devoted father of four children, and proud “Pappy” to eight cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, numerous siblings, nieces, and nephews. John retired as building supervisor at Piney Ridge Elementary School. In retirement, he enjoyed driving through the Great Smoky Mountains in search of bears and was known for his talent in repairing lawn tractors and small engines.
