Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County has been awarded a $180,000 Thome Aging Well Grant to expand its Critical Home Repair Program, helping more older adults with lower incomes remain safe, healthy and independent in their homes.
The organization is one of 24 nonprofit organizations in Maryland and Michigan selected to receive a portion of the $3.8 million in total funding awarded through the 2026 Thome Aging Well Grant program. The grants support community-based efforts that help older adults age safely in place.
Habitat’s Critical Home Repair Program provides essential repairs and accessibility improvements for income-qualified homeowners throughout Carroll County. Services include roof repairs and replacements, HVAC system replacements, wheelchair ramps, grab bars and other modifications designed to improve safety, accessibility and quality of life while allowing older adults to remain in their homes.
“This grant represents an incredible investment in the well-being of older adults in our community,” said Amy Larocque-Rumano, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County. “A safe home is the foundation for health, independence, and dignity. Thanks to the generosity of Enterprise Community Partners and the Edward N. & Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, we will be able to serve more older homeowners with critical repairs that allow them to remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love. Together, we’re preserving affordable housing, strengthening our community, and helping our neighbors age with the dignity they deserve.”
The Thome Aging Well program was launched in 2022 by Enterprise Community Partners with funding from the Edward N. & Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, Bank of America, Trustee. The program uses a trust-based philanthropic approach that gives local organizations flexibility to address the specific needs of their communities.
“These organizations will have the flexibility to meet older adults where they are and respond to the needs they see emerging in their communities,” said Stephany De Scisciolo, Enterprise vice president of impact, evaluation and population health. “This is how we ensure that these grants will have the greatest impact—by placing them in the hands of trusted, community-based partners working every day to ensure older adults can remain in their homes and continue to live safely and comfortably in the neighborhoods they know.”
Since its launch, the Thome Aging Well program has awarded more than $23 million to 66 community-based, government and tribal organizations, supporting more than 14,000 older adults through home modifications, preventive health services, food access programs and other aging-in-place initiatives.
Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County has served local families since 1990 by building affordable homeownership opportunities and providing critical home repairs for eligible homeowners.
