Sister Mary John Lindner, D.C., age 102, died August 27, 2026, at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Born in Cumberland, she entered the Daughters of Charity in 1945 after working at Sacred Heart Hospital. She earned degrees in English and education, including a doctorate, and dedicated decades to teaching, educational leadership, parish ministry and community service in Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. She also served as Provincial of the West Central Province. A lifelong writer, Sister Mary John enjoyed composing poetry and spent her final years in the Ministry of Prayer at Villa St. Michael. She is survived by her sister, Loretta “Boo” Lippold, nieces, nephews and her Sisters in Community.
