Stephanie Hall Rutledge is program director and professor of Counseling. Rutledge brings extensive experience in higher education, academic leadership, and accreditation to her role. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing and strengthening counseling programs and the preparation of future counselors.
She has held a number of faculty and leadership roles at universities across the country. Most recently, she served as the founding department chair and program director of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Emory & Henry University in Virginia. Previously, she was chair of the Department of Professional Counseling at Monmouth University in New Jersey and has also taught at Fairfield University, Eastern Kentucky University, and National Louis University.
Rutledge has served as a site visitor and team chair for the Council of Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) since 2007. Through this work, she has evaluated counselor education programs across the country and gained extensive experience in accreditation standards, program assessment, and student outcomes.
In addition to academic leadership and accreditation work, Rutledge is a subject matter expert for the National Board for Certified Counselors and has served as an editorial board member for national and state professional journals. She is also the author of numerous scholarly articles and has presented at national and international professional conferences. Her teaching and research interests include grief and loss, ethics in counseling, and equine assisted psychotherapy.
Rutledge received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Kentucky, master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Louisiana Tech University, and doctorate in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans (now Louisiana State University New Orleans).
