Carroll County Attorney Tim Burke will retire Nov. 4 after 31 years with Carroll County Government and a 40-year career in law.
Burke began working for the county in 1996 and was appointed county attorney in 2011. He said his retirement has been planned to coincide with the end of the current Board of Commissioners’ term, allowing the board to select a successor who can begin at the start of its next term.
“I had always intended to retire at this point to allow the Board of Commissioners to select a replacement who could begin at the start of the Board’s next term,” Burke said.
Assistant County Attorney Elizabeth Moore will serve as interim county attorney beginning Nov. 5 while the county searches for a permanent replacement. The position is currently open, and applicants can review the job announcement and requirements through the county’s LinkedIn posting.
Board of Commissioners President Vigliotti thanked Burke for his decades of service to the county and its residents.
“Tim’s thirty-one years of hard work and unfailing, dedicated service have been a tremendous benefit for our citizens and the County,” Vigliotti said. “On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, we wish Tim the best, and a long, happy retirement.”

Vigliotti also praised Moore and expressed confidence that the county’s legal services will continue without interruption during the transition. Burke’s retirement will mark the end of more than three decades advising Carroll County Government and overseeing its legal affairs.
