Martha Ruth Stephens, born March 27, 1936, in Grundy, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at age 89. Known as a compassionate and loving Christian woman, she was devoted to her family and faith. Martha married William “Bill” Elbert Stephens in 1954, celebrating 71 years together. She served faithfully as Clerk of Old Carroll Primitive Baptist Church for 27 years and supported her husband’s pastoral work. A retired Westinghouse employee, she contributed to NASA’s Hubble Telescope project. Despite battling Alzheimer’s in later years, her joyful spirit and beautiful hymns remained. Martha is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and generations of family.
