Richard Wayne Van Fossen, 87, of Sykesville, Maryland, died on May 5, 2026. Born September 6, 1938, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Ethel L. Antrobus Van Fossen and Mason P. Van Fossen and the loving husband of the late Kathleen “Kate” Van Fossen for 61 years. Richard spent part of his youth at Strawbridge Boys’ Home, where he developed lifelong friendships and a strong work ethic. He served in the United States Air Force until 1963 and later worked 31 years as a Communications Technician. A passionate pilot, he loved flying his Cessna Skyhawk, traveling, and spending time with family. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
