The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County have received a $20,000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help provide nutritious food and resources to children and families experiencing food insecurity.

The grant is part of the foundation’s Summers Without Hunger program, which supports community feeding partners by increasing access to nutritious food, nutrition education and other resources for children and families.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation,” said Erin Bishop, director of impact and strategy at Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County. “Across our after school and summer programs, we provide more than 1,200 snacks each week. Food Lion’s support helps us offer snacks that are nutritious and something kids want to eat, while giving families the reassurance that food will be available.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County has served the community for 20 years and works with local schools, businesses and community organizations to expand opportunities for children throughout Carroll County.

Through those partnerships, children and teens have access to mentors, career exploration, leadership development, enrichment activities and other experiences designed to help them develop skills and discover new interests.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carroll County serves youth ages 6 to 18 at five locations throughout the county. Its programs provide a safe environment where young people can build relationships with caring adults, develop leadership and character skills, and explore opportunities for their futures.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation was established in 2001 and provides financial support to organizations working to address food insecurity in communities served by Food Lion. According to the foundation, it has awarded more than $25 million in grants since its creation to support hunger-relief programs and other efforts to nourish local communities.

Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores across 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. Through its Food Lion Feeds hunger-relief platform, the company said it has donated more than 1.5 billion meals to people experiencing food insecurity since 2014.
