Carroll County has officially welcomed Susan Krebs as the newest commissioner for District 5 on Thursday, September 11 during a Board of Commissioners open session. Appointed by Governor Wes Moore following her nomination by the Carroll County Republican Central Committee, Krebs took the oath of office today to complete the term of outgoing Commissioner Ed Rothstein.

Krebs is no stranger to public service. A Towson State University alumna with a degree in Business Administration, she began her civic career on the Carroll County Board of Education in 1998. She later went on to represent the county in the Maryland General Assembly for two decades, where she became known for her commitment to conservative principles and her strong advocacy for local issues.

With more than 40 years of residency in Carroll County, Krebs has deep roots in the community. She and her husband raised three children locally and now enjoy time with their seven grandchildren. A familiar face in the Freedom area, she stays active by attending community events and playing pickleball at the South Carroll Senior Center.

“I look forward to once again representing the best interests of the great citizens we have here in Carroll County.”

Krebs said the opportunity to return to county government was unexpected but felt like a natural step. “This unexpected opening in the Commissioner’s office drew me back to my roots in the Freedom community, where there is a lot of activity going on that can impact our entire county.”

As she settles into her new role, Krebs is expected to bring a steady hand and a familiar voice to county leadership, with a focus on preserving the character of the region while supporting its continued growth.

Board of Commissioners President Kenny Kiler expressed confidence in Krebs’ ability to contribute right away. “We are looking forward to working with Susan as we continue to serve our constituents for the betterment of Carroll County. No doubt, her political expertise and savvy will be an asset to the board and the community as a whole.”
