Main Street was transformed into a vibrant tapestry of color and rhythm on Saturday as thousands of residents and visitors gathered for the annual Westminster Flower & Jazz Festival. The beloved community tradition kicked off at 10 a.m., turning the heart of the city into a bustling celebration of spring.

Despite a very slight morning drizzle, the clouds parted just in time for the festivities, giving way to a somewhat sunny/cloud covered 65-degree day. The intermitant sunshine energized a diverse crowd that spanned all generations, from energetic youngsters to seniors, all enjoying the lively atmosphere of the historic downtown.

The air was filled with a “cool” symphony as music echoed from three different stages positioned at the eastern, middle, and western ends of Main Street. The lineup offered something for every ear, ranging from intimate five-piece ensembles to a roaring, full-size brass band that had the crowd tapping their toes.

Nature and craftsmanship were the stars of the show, with an eclectic array of vendors lining the streets. Attendees browsed through unique herbs, vibrant perennials, and handmade treasures including artisan jewelry, custom cutting boards, and even specialty dog biscuits.

Local leadership was also out in force. Mayor Mona Becker was spotted navigating the cheerful crowds with a plant in each hand, radiating excitement for the event’s success.

The Mayor made a special stop at the Historical Society of Carroll County to participate in a sweet Maryland legacy: the Baltimore Lemon Stick. The traditional treat—a fresh lemon served with a peppermint stick straw—was a major draw for the local leader.

“This was one of the main reasons I came to Main Street today—to get my Baltimore lemon stick,” Mayor Becker exclaimed, noting how wonderful the festival felt this year.

The festival proved to be a culinary paradise, with food trucks and stands offering everything from authentic Indian cuisine and classic Maryland crab cakes to burgers, pizza, and ice-cold lemonade. Retailers along Main Street also reported a significant boost, benefiting from the massive surge in foot traffic.

The event was a true “paws-itivty” inclusive affair, as dogs of all sizes—from towering Great Danes and friendly Labradors to spirited Dachshunds—joined their owners on the trek. Even local celebrity “Potato” the pug was spotted soaking up the attention.

Ensuring the day remained focused on fun, the Westminster Police Department managed security and traffic flawlessly. As the music played on and the sun shone down, the Flower & Jazz Festival once again proved why it is a crown jewel of the Westminster community calendar.
