McDaniel College has named its new nursing facility at LifeBridge Health’s Carroll Hospital in honor of The Kahlert Foundation and Carroll County philanthropists Greg and Roberta Kahlert.
The McDaniel College Kahlert Nursing Education Center is expected to open in fall 2026 and will serve as the future home for the college’s nursing classrooms, labs and offices. A plaque unveiling ceremony announcing the name took place May 5 on the McDaniel campus, just ahead of National Nurses Day.
The center is part of McDaniel’s growing Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which launched in fall 2024 through a partnership with Carroll Hospital, part of the LifeBridge Health network. The program was created to help strengthen the nursing workforce in Carroll County and the surrounding region. Nursing courses are scheduled to begin at the hospital in fall 2026.

“This partnership is really about making sure our communities have the nurses they need. When students can learn in a real hospital setting, they gain experience and confidence that matter most. We’re proud to support a program that helps prepare them to compassionately care for people for years to come,” states President of The Kahlert Foundation, Greg W. Kahlert.
The Kahlert Foundation has been a major supporter of the program, awarding McDaniel a $2.5 million grant in October 2024 and an additional $150,000 grant in 2023 for program development.
Greg and Roberta Kahlert, longtime Sykesville residents, are widely known for their philanthropic work throughout Carroll County.
Greg Kahlert serves as president of The Kahlert Foundation, which was established in 1991 by his father, William “Bill” Kahlert. Roberta Kahlert also serves on the foundation’s board of directors. The foundation provides millions of dollars annually to charities in Maryland, Utah and parts of the Mid-Atlantic, supporting causes such as education, healthcare, youth services, veterans and human services.
