The Town of Sykesville has been named a 2026 Great American Main Street Award winner, a national honor recognizing excellence in downtown revitalization.
The award, presented by Main Street America, highlights communities that demonstrate success in preservation-based economic development, community engagement and long-term growth. Sykesville received the recognition at the Main Street Now Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Over the past two decades, Sykesville has transformed its historic downtown from a district marked by vacancies and limited activity into a fully occupied and economically resilient Main Street, according to the Downtown Sykesville Connection.
The turnaround reflects collaboration among local businesses, residents, volunteers and public and community partners.

“This recognition is a testament to the strength of our partnerships and the shared commitment to a people-centered approach to revitalization,” said Julie Della-Maria, executive director of the Downtown Sykesville Connection. “By combining data-driven strategies with a deep investment in community connection, Sykesville has built a downtown that is both economically strong and deeply meaningful to those it serves.”
To celebrate the award, the town and the Downtown Sykesville Connection will host a community block party April 18 from noon to 4 p.m. in downtown Sykesville. More information about the event and the award is available on the Downtown Sykesville Connection website.
